What is an Apprenticeship?

An Apprenticeship is a framework of work-based training and learning that can be done to Apprenticeship, Advanced Apprenticeship and Higher Apprenticeship levels.  All Apprenticeship programmes comprise an NVQ/Diploma/Certificate, Functional Skills and a Technical Certificate that measures an apprentice's vocational knowledge and understanding.

All elements of an apprenticeship are based on national occupational standards that prescribe the level and breadth of performance that is expected of anyone working in the relevant vocational area covered by a specific Apprenticeship; training is usually delivered in the workplace.

Are there any starting requirements?

You do not have to pass a written exam or have any previous qualifications to be able to start many Apprenticeship programmes.  However, you will have the opportunity to attain Functional Skills qualifications in English, Maths and ICT and as an apprentice you will be supported by qualified tutors to develop your skills.

All apprentices need to be employed full time in a job role which is relevant to the apprenticeship programme being undertaken.

Current government funding regulations require all apprenticeship programmes to be of at least one year duration.

Is this the right Apprenticeship for me?

A TRP Training Advisor will carry out an intial assessment of your past experience, current skills and possible support requirements and will look at your real work situation and job role before agreeing with you and your employer that this qualification is suitable for you.

How will my chosen Apprenticeship help me with my career aims?

Achieving your chosen Apprenticeship can enable you to progress within your company; it can be a stepping stone to a higher level of Apprenticeship training to further develop your skills and enhance your career options.
